Building a Village Gathering Place
Village gathering places are very useful to the Akha community. In days gone by when the Akha could log for a few boards it wasn't a problem, but since that is now forbidden, outside help is appreciated for buying the floor boards, and the Akha supply the rest. Gathering places are useful for children, a place to rest out of the sun, meetings, dances and other performances. Here we build a Sala in Pah Nmm Akha and another one in Mae Chan Luong village near Doi Mae Salong. Cost of building a gathering place is about $1500. Villagers maintain the gathering place year to year after it is built.
