Building an Akha Road

The village of Pah Nmm was relocated from its original location on the mountain top to the lower hills around 1990.

The villagers have seen a drop in nutrition since that time with a very high level of miscarriages.

Fields were an hour and a half away, requiring a three hour walk per day.

To improve this situation we worked with villagers and decided to pay for the building of a small road where the trail had been to make travel more secure and easier on all the villagers, particularly the women.

The Road

For three years we worked on the road to the fields with the villagers of Pah Nmm.

In 2003 this road was finished.

Paul and Patricia Hancock were contributors to the cost of this road along with numerous other people.
