Prison Letters

There are thousands of Akha who have been targeted by the drug war and a policy of arrest that removes the Akha from the mountains. They rotate in and out of prison. Currently there are about 450 Akha prisoners who we have lists for, there are many prisons and jails in Thailand we have no lists for. There are also some Akha in prison overseas from time to time. The Akha are not the only hill tribe group targeted.

All of these Akha men and women have ended up in jails and prisons across Thailand with no oversight of their cases and little contact with the outside world.

Due to the efforts of a number of individuals we have been able to track down an increaseing number of these Akha and find out what prisons and jails they are in.

We have now begun a prison letters project where we send letters to these prisoners and will be sending them books in the Akha language.

Prison Address Lists in PDF Format
We now have prison addresses listed by prison, male, female, Akha or other Hill Tribe. There are approximately 551 prisoners listed. Some prisoners may be transferred, released or have died. So we always need more recent information to update these lists. Our goal is to mail once to each prisoner a number of times per year. You can donate to mailing costs at our PayPal Link at the top of the page.

Each list gives the name of the prison and the prison address. The prisoners are listed with the name of the prison address they are in also. Below each prisoner seperated by a space will be any information we have on that prisoner. Much of this information can change.

The lists are made to be printed out, then the prisoner's address can be cut directly from the list and pasted on an envelope.
