The Akha Not Given Good Information on the Morning After Pill The Thai Government and the Population Council are now promoting the "morning after" pill to hill tribe peoples. The Akha are being sold the morning after pill while having little to no information on the adverse effects of birth control pills, let alone a multiple dose birth control pill. Many Akha women who take birth control pills experience a change in body shape, and an increased difficulty in bearing children when they later choose to. And of course, little is said about the questionable quality of pills that they may buy off the shelf of any shop. However, the Population Council and Thai Government agencies which are now promoting the "Morning After Pill" are not telling the users that this pill can readily be an abortion pill preventing the fertilized egg from planting in the uterine wall. The majority of Akha are strong opponents of abortion, as a part of their traditional culture.
