Printing Press For Akha Literacy In Akha Language
Currently we are having the Thai shops print books for us. Books printed in quantities of 5,000 to 20,000 or more books. The Thai print shops charge us more than a 100% above the cost of the materials required for printing. Thus we propose to build a print shop and buy a printing press and employ the Akha to print books in Akha language. The cost savings and opportunity to do other printing will be an enormous savings. Cost Printing house $7,500, cost of Printing Press $34,000.

Fish Hatchery Project For Protein
This fish hatchery for improved village nutrition is partially completed. We are in need of securing the water supply well and covering it, cost $2,500, building a pump house and fencing the hatchery to prevent theft of fish. We also must pay off the cost of the land that the hatchery is on. Land Cost is $6,500. Cost of finishing the hatchery well, cover, plumbing, pump house and a small caretaker home is $7,000. Stocking the fish hatchery $1500. Feed supply for set up $1000. Fish grow to maturity in three months, can feed the village, provide jobs and cover the cost of fish feeds via sale of part of the fish.

Fruit Trees For Nutrition
Fruit trees that do not require pesticide are needed for families in Akha villages. We propose purchasing enough fruit trees for five villages, about 20,000 trees at the cost of .50 cents each equals $10,000. Fruit trees help health, protect the shade lands, and make an income for families. Each family gets 100 trees, 40 families per village, and five villages.

Village School House
A Village schoolhouse is needed in one village to begin teacher training in this Akha village as a pilot project. Teachers from other villages will be encouraged to attend. Building $7500. Salary for instructor for six months $600.

Village Wells For Safe Water
No Akha villages in Thailand have any running water. The only solution to this problem is to have a well drilled in a village and have potable water available. Our current estimate for this is $5500 for a well to be drilled and $2500 for a water holding tank to be set at the site to feed drinking water to households. Akha village water supplies from the hills are contaminated with organic and parasite material that drains the health of the village. Village water is also contaminated with pesticides and herbicides.

Prison Support Project
There are over 3,000 Akha in Thai prisons, one of the highest incarceration rates in the world, since there are only 70,000 Akha in Thailand, or a rate of 7%. We need to hire workers to mail letters to prisoners, visit prisoners to discuss their cases and hire lawyers to get the early release of prisoners with excessive sentences and cases where they were fraudulently arrested by Thai authorities, two project workers, travel costs, supplies and aid to prisoners. One-year project. $22,000.

Akha Health Centre
We need to construct a small building as an Akha health centre in one village that will serve several villages in the area. Building cost $7,500. Equipment $5000. Hire a nurse. $6,000 for the year.

Currently there is insufficient advocacy at the village health level. A travelling Akha health assistant who will check the hospitals to evaluate patient cases and monitor the quality of care or crisis for them in the Thai health system, reporting back to the care centre, escorting a special case through the Thai health care system. Yearly salary and travel cost. $3500

Coffee Roasting For Economic Sustainability
The Akha villages are already producing a fine mountain coffee. We need a Probat Roaster and packaging equipment to package Akha coffee under the Akha label. We need a roasting house for this $8,500 a Probat Roaster $12,000, plus import fees of $6,000. We need packaging and packaging equipment $3500 the roasting project will employ Akha people, help maintain a high coffee price for producers, bring attention to the Akha people and their needs, as well as raise funds for the Akha community.

Akha Recital
The Akha has an oral tradition. In order to preserve this indigenous knowledge we need to set up a complete recital of the Akha Law, which will take two months of recording elders. Cost is $3,000. This material will be used to produce Akha books on history, culture, law and religion

Second Truck
Currently there is the need to be able to move volunteers and Akha for human rights actions to protect villages and help conduct training, for this we need a second truck, $22,000. Purchased and equipped second hand.
