Pig Farms and Direct Pollution on Akha Lands

Pig Farm Pollution Near A River

The Akha are often blamed for damaging the environment, allowing their livestock to pollute the watershed.

But here we see a Thai pig farm, built immediately on a river, where urine and feces from the pigs can escape into the river. This pig farm is just outside Haen Taek - Thoed Thai, in Ampur Mae Faluang, Chiangrai Province.

The problem with this is not only that the virus and parasite materials go into the river, but also the fact that medicines and hormones, what ever is fed to these commercial pigs, also goes into the river, which is a drinking supply to many people downstream.

Yet true to form, no one says a word.
